Huron County Postpartum Support's (HCPPS) mission is to serve mothers who are suffering from a perinatal mood disorder with support and encouragement by providing free consultations, referrals, and support groups. It is our belief that a happy healthy mom = a happy healthy baby.
HCPPS is run by a mother who has also experienced pregnancy and postpartum related emotional adjustment issues. All volunteers are trained to be skilled listeners. They are not, however, trained counselors or psychologists.
HCPPS also strives to educate the community on the importance of screening and supporting women. We regularly speak to parents-to-be through Huron Medical Center’s Childbirth Education Class on the risk factors and signs and symptoms of a perinatal mood disorder. We have been featured on television and in the newspaper for the work we do.
Through the generosity of the Huron County CA/N Council we are able to provide a monthly support group which meets the third Wednesday of every month from 6-7:30 p.m. at Huron Medical Center. Please call Melissa to register 989-551-1096.
If you, or someone you love, is experiencing a perinatal mood disorder we want you to know that we are here to help 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Mothers can take a simple 10-question screening tool, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, which may help determine the urgency of their situation.
